Tualatin Soil and water conservation district

Providing local solutions to local problems.

What’s New

In 2005, the Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District partnered with the Farm Service Agency, Clean Water Services, and others to implement two programs aimed at establishing vegetative buffers along perennial streams in the Tualatin Basin.  The Enhanced Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (Enhanced CREP) offers planting assistance, annual payments, and financial incentives to landowners who enroll streamside property.  Vegetated Buffer Areas for Conservation and Commerce (VEGBACC) offers landowners free planting material and cost-sharing for buffer maintenance.

The first Enhanced CREP project was planted in 2005.  Since then, Tualatin SWCD has enrolled 99 acres, and planted over 62,000 native trees and shrubs along 6.5 miles of stream.  Landowner interest in these programs is high.  Our efforts will continue to increase with an estimated 174 acres and 9.2 miles of stream to be planted to native trees and shrubs in 2007.
